Heart Attack Exchange, 2023
Apr. 15th, 2023 11:52 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Okay somehow I can't find my old sign up letters to copy and paste a "likes" list so here's a fresh start that will surely be incomplete (keep scrolling for specific fandoms and their prompts)
Also: I've been editing this letter on my phone and the text sizing is behaving erratically. Besides the things that are obviously section headers, the size of the text shouldn't connote any relative importance. Just because one prompt is a bigger/smaller font than the ones around it does not mean it's more/less of a Thing I'd Love than the others.
On that note, while I have many prompts, if you actually had a Specific Thing in mind for the relationship we matched on and I haven't mentioned anything adjacent? Go nuts. I love variety too.
For all requests I'm opting in to art/25 panel comic, remixes of anything I've started writing, and sequels to anything marked complete. (Alas, of my requested fandoms I've only published fic for Harry Potter, but the eagerness for two cakes remains).
General
General/Fic likes:
- Worldbuilding
- Found family
- Complex characters that aren't wholly good or wholly bad
- Unreliable or blatantly biased narrators
- Outsider POV
- Everyday background details brought into focus (...aka more worldbuilding)
- "Crack treated seriously" aka you've focused on this one detail or scenario that maybe sounds absurd out of context but you've committed and if that detail/scenario is fact then everything that follows is a natural conclusion
- Messy conflicting human emotions
- Time travel fix it (especially Peggy Sue style)
- Time travel attempted fix it but everything keeps butterfly-effect spiraling out of control
- One or two OP characters rewriting the world to their liking (wish fulfillment)
- Gritty realism where nothing is that easy
- characters trying to change the world in huge sweeping ways but only succeeding at making smaller changes (for now)
- Traumatized characters not being okay immediately, but having time and the right support networks to eventually recover (whether on screen or just implied that they'll get there)
- Low stakes fluff
- Hurt/Comfort (up to and including whump, as long as the comfort follows)
- Introspection, low/no plot character studies
- Queer characters (any flavor, including aro, trans, polyam, etc)
- Happily married or partnered couples that have been together for ages, and their small moments of domestic happiness
- Gameplay mechanics that characters in-universe are aware of to whatever degree (arguably a subset of "crack treated seriously").
- creators being self indulgent with an extra scene or three that inspire you, even if it isn't 100% on topic to the "requested ship" (especially in long-form creation like this there's so much room to build depth and side plots and I love to see it)
Art likes:
-Color (basically any decisive color scheme: bold colors with heavy shading, all pastels, all black and white with one focused detail in red, ...)
-Line art with or without color
-Borderlands (video games) style heavy outlines on figures
-Non chibi characters drawn chibi in moments of High Emotion (heart eyes, steaming in anger, melting from stress, ... like Alphonse Elric tbh. And probably like others too but my anime exposure is limited)
- Definitely more things that I have failed to articulate while writing this letter. Plus I don't have the art skills myself so I don't know how to talk about things. But major respect to people who can draw things they're satisfied with enough to share or gift to others y'all are so cool
I'm generally neutral about (and therefore opting in for creator flexibility)
- 2nd person fic
- Any and all standard archive warnings
- Explicit sexual content
- OCs in major roles
- Ships not mentioned in requested tag (not necessarily canon, feel free to have the crackship of your heart cameo in the background. If it overlaps with a requested romantic ship and that's the one you're filling for, I prefer some happy flavor of polyamory (whether or not the characters call it that) and the requested ship gets together by the end)
- Dumbledore bashing (relevant to HP - JKR and Crossover Fandom requests)
General DNWs:
- pov drug use in combination with near death experiences (either drug use or near death experiences fine on their own, mentions of the combination fine, a whole scene of that combination please do not)
- Detailed descriptions/depictions of vomit (exception: the Unstable Unicorns nsfw pack includes drunk unicorns vomiting literal rainbows. Feel free to match canon if you like. Otherwise, mentions of vomit are fine, but don't focus on it please)
- Noncanonical holocaust analogies (Harry Potter it's kind of baked in, and the Crossover request is from two canons set during the world wars but otherwise please stay away)
- Totally hopeless endings (dark with a ray of hope and other edge cases okay)
Okay. Now on to the fandom specifics
Harry Potter
The fandom I can never leave.
This time I've requested a lot of variants of Argus Filch. I headcanon that Argus is a Black (Argus is another Greek Mythology name like most of the stars) and that someone in the family got snobby and didn't even let him keep the family name when they realized he wasn't magic. (but if not the Blacks any of the sacred 28 are fine). I would love to explore his relationship with his family - either disdainful parents and that one sibling who cares but doesn't want to also get disowned by being too openly friendly, or his feelings towards younger cousins who don't acknowledge him as family once he's Hogwarts' caretaker (Sirius' generation?) or anything else in between.
Book three also gave us some evidence that "caretaker" doesn't (only) mean janitor, but more that he maintains and restores the magical portraits. I would love to see a deep dive exploring that highly specialized skill set, and if any of the portraits give him a hard time about his lack of magic if they even notice.
Romance on the side is fine, but I don't have anyone in mind to suggest for him.
But there's also my usual requests:
I have many feels about the Black brothers, and their relationship with each other, and especially Regulus and his ultimate betrayal of Voldemort. In a Regulus lives au, I'm always a fan of him realizing that his decisions have consequences and digging in and really Committing to bringing down this terrorist.
I love exploring Fleur or Remus for their "creature" status and what it does or doesn't mean for them, perhaps especially in contrast. Fleur seems to embrace it, while Remus hates himself. I could speculate for ages on the why of that, but even more interesting is how does that difference shape them?
I also like pairing Harry with just about anyone roughly his age. (Which, if time travel gets involved, can include just about anyone, including Regulus, or even the Founders) Cedric and Viktor are both good options (Harry notices his fellow seekers if you know what I mean), Hermione is a classic, and those few are tagged, but anything goes.
One utterly bulletproof trope for me is when (roughly canon age ie 9-19yo) Harry finds out [crossover character] is his bio parent and escapes the Dursleys to live with them (or they belatedly find out about him and come swooping in, or any variant thereof. Non-bio-relative Competent Adults stepping like I'm your parent now is also great). I will read basically anything in that format, canon blind, and love it. So I'm opting in to unrequested crossovers with Harry Potter (blank check, for the sake of the mods. Any crossover, officially opted in to) on the chance this comment has inspired you (or if fusion worldbuilding is your thing or whatever else)
Fandom specific DNWs:
- anti-Voldemort characters calling Voldemort "Tom" as a power play (when the taboo gets involved, this becomes a gray area of "is this sass or self preservation?" but I still prefer irreverent nicknames like "Moldy Voldie" or euphemisms like "the dark lord") (exception: Dumbledore can call him Tom all the time for any reason)
- extended focus on real modern Christian or Wiccan holidays (mentioning Christmas/Yule as synonymous with the winter holiday break, or as the title of a social event is fine ("going home for Christmas", hosting a "Yule Ball", etc), are fine. "festive decorations" is an excellent phrase for skimming past the details. If the plot/ characterization requires opening reciprocally-given (ie holiday not birthday) presents (for bonding or for statement gifts like the Dursleys sending Harry a used sock or a single coin), that's fine, but I'd rather a generic/unspecified "sitting together in the living room because holiday tradition" and character focused than "gathering around the tree" where possible) (other irl religions are okay)
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (Time/Darkness/Sky)
Player & Grovyle is my favorite least explored relationship in canon. You and Grovyle literally went on a suicide mission together to fix the world before it could break, and you trusted each other enough for the dimensional scream to work and now you don't remember Grovyle at all. Pre-canon fluff or adventure, or mid/post canon tragedy are all good. I just want to explore this friendship/partnership that much more closely.
On the same note, player & partner! So trusting, so quickly! That once again, the dimensional scream works at all, let alone so soon after you met? What a friendship. (The scene between the credits and the postgame always makes me cry). Give me more of this love and devotion (I requested & for this relationship but if it's pushing the boundaries of / that's fine)
Wigglytuff &/ Chatot
these two have old married couple energy and I love them both. When did they meet? Whose idea was it to start the guild? Or did Chatot join after it was already established and replace an older depot? Was the position belatedly created for him? Also feel free to follow up on the Sky bonus chapter about Igglybuff's early adventure(s).
Grovyle/Celebi
This romance is only hinted at in canon but imagine Celebi checking in with Grovyle while Partner is busy with early game plot, or that romance building before player and Grovyle travel back in time and that's why Celebi knew about player enough to offer to send them both back in time. Or post canon grovyle and Celebi comforting each other in their doomed timeline but Celebi can somehow tell that player changed the course of time so their timeline won't exist for anyone not already in it... there's so much opportunity here
Anyway since I'm doing it automatically while talking about what I love in this canon, 2nd person POV seems like a good fit here. I've already opted in, in general, to 2nd person narration (just because I don't read it often enough to have an opinion doesn't mean I don't like it, just that I don't find it), but I'm enthusiastically opting in for this one.
Crossover
Edmund Pevensie/Tom Riddle
Two boys traumatized by the war, getting out of the big city, maybe meeting in a train station. Imperfect, selfish boys who aren't evil (yet?) despite their flaws... I don't have many ideas for this ship but I saw it in the tagset and wow. Bigbrain, whoever nominated it. Embrace the magic of both canons. If this ship inspires you, I'd love to see it.
Feel free to include Eustace Clarence Scrubb - I read Voyage of the Dawn Treader so many times and the dragon sequence seems like a thing that could come up again (and inspire Tom: are magical animagi a thing? He's now out to prove it)
Fandom specific DNWs:
- anything about concentration camps
- Calling Aslan "(Furry) Jesus" or otherwise explicitly tying parts of Narnia to parts of Christianity (explorations of spirituality, (divine) sacrifice, redemption, and all sorts of related concepts are fine, just leave specific earth-based religions and their names on earth).
Unstable Unicorns (safety)
The tag "worldbuilding & none" covers literally anything you might want to do with this fandom, but I've also requested some combinations of characters (cards) that seem interesting together. I think that playing a round or two of this game and then giving the Unicorns actual names and just writing up that sequence of chaos would be excellent. All expansion packs welcome (including nsfw). Or dive deep into worldbuilding and focus on one or two Unicorns... honestly I'd be delighted by anything for this fandom.
See also the fandom promo post here for more hype, and links for pinch hitters
Puss in Boots (safety)
Okay so actually I haven't seen the first movie, only the latest one, Puss in Boots the Last Wish. Feel free, but not obligated, to reference anything from the earlier Puss in Boots movie or the Netflix series or any part of the Shrek franchise
This fandom is also excellent for tropey goodness, or references to your favorite obscure fairy tale or nursery rhyme. Depending on the timeline, if it makes sense, I would also love to see the Ethical Cricket make a cameo in whatever you create for me
Thoughts by relationship:
Goldi & the Bears
Found family aaaaa. Goldi & Baby sassing each other. The way Mama immediately accepted Goldi's wish for a "real" (human) family and was determined to support her despite how heartbreaking that must have been to hear. The shenanigans of a typical heist... Found family is basically my favorite trope. Lean into it.
Puss & Kitty & Perrito
Our adventuring Trio. That moment when Puss was like "hey let's figure out a name for you" and Perrito responded "actually I kind of like Perrito. That's what my friends call me" My heart. The reveal that neither Puss nor Kitty showed up to their "wedding day". These characters were so fun together. I would love some more post-canon adventures and cherishing the (single) life they have together. (Also. More found family)
Puss & The Wolf
This one is somehow the central relationship of the whole movie but the hardest to prompt for. I would love to see more of the Wolf mid-movie, or post-canon checking in on everyone and satisfied to see that Puss really has learned his lesson to value the life he has
Solo: Perrito
Honestly you could write me a 5+1 of the absolute hell/whump that Perrito lived through, the "hide and seek" drowning attempts, the insults that he dished back to the Bears that you know someone said to him at least once... and of course ending with the real friendship he developed with Puss and Kitty. (Or ending before the movie, when he settles in under the porch at Mama Luna's - after being rejected for not being a cat, so he's not officially welcome inside) but through everything he's still so optimistic and determined to be a therapy dog and be a positive influence on the world and i love him so much. (I have a half baked idea for a 5+1 with the chapter titles as the different names he's been called, with Runt and Shithead in the mix and if that inspires you, feel free to run with it. Two cakes)

- likewise, please no focus on "character hates Christianity/Wicca because..." (nor against any other religion) (Sirius is a likely candidate for "I rejected all of my parents traditions because" or "i rejected my parents' religion along with everything else" either of which is fine, but no singling out religion to be hated please)
- narrative mocking anyone for caring about others. In particular if Hermione decides to save the house elves, no SPEW. Her organization has never had a name. (She doesn't have to succeed at freeing them all, because she's 15 and doesn't understand the systemic issues maintaining the status quo. Just please no portraying her - or anyone else - as the butt of a joke just for trying) (alternate org names that are contrived into a nicer, on topic acronym, like Freedom, Respect, and Education for Elves (FREE) are welcome ofc)
- narrative justification for blood status bigotry (ie no "magic is dying because of intermarriage" as in-universe truth. (but the same statement as propaganda that pov characters eventually question or disbelieve) is fine) let the racism just be racism)
